Responsibilities

Each individual performs only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by California Business & Professions Code (Sections §1206.5 (a)(b)(c), §1261, §1210, §1269, §1260.3, 17 CFR 1031 (b) (1-5), 17 CFR 1032.5) and must possess a degree of skill commensurate with their education, training, or experience and technical abilities. Responsibilities include:

  1. Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  2. Follow established quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  3. Identify problems affecting test performance and correct or notify supervisors immediately.
  4. Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods across disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  5. Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed.
  6. Review patient results for accuracy before reporting.
  7. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
  8. Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient samples and collaborate with other labs appropriately.
  9. Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture as required.
  10. Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
  11. Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources policies.
  12. May serve as General Supervisor during shifts or be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and POC.
  13. Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager or director.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training

  • Requires two years of clinical laboratory experience covering all areas of a clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or as specified in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
  • Current and valid California State License required.

Estimated compensation for this role is $54.33 per hour. The final offer will consider skills, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
