Job summary

La Clínica de La Raza seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform a broad range of laboratory tests and oversee quality assurances in our Oakland lab. You will ensure accuracy and timely reporting while collaborating with diverse clinical teams.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree, CA CLS license, and a current BLS certificate, plus 2–3 years of lab technologist experience. You will supervise staff, mentor trainees, and participate in cross-departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• California Department of Public Health license as Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate with 30-day grace period to obtain it.
• 2–3 years of experience as Clinical Lab Technologist.
• Ability to work independently and with a team, supervise others, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work across cultures and support diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Performs tests in hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, and serology.
• Performs quality control procedures, equipment maintenance and calibration, and reagent preparation.
• Provides supervision and instructions to lab assistants, phlebotomists, and trainees.
• Compiles and prepares reports; reviews and updates laboratory procedures.
• Provides in-service training to other laboratory personnel within a designated area.
• Performs clerical functions associated with the designated laboratory area.
• Attends meetings as needed.
• Maintains departmental policies, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff, and other departments.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

La Clínica de La Raza is a community-based health center committed to providing culturally appropriate, high-quality, and accessible health care to the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. We have spent over 40 years advocating for and creating a health-home for the many that have been denied access to care. As health care activists, we are dedicated to ensuring that individuals who do not have healthcare coverage receive the same quality healthcare as those who do. Who you are

Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance. The medical technologist also maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and inter-departmental personnel as well as provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of clinical problems.

Major Areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:

• Performs a variety of tests requiring use of professional judgment in such areas as hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, and serology.
• Performs quality control procedures, equipment maintenance and calibration and reagent preparation.
• Provides clinical supervision and instructions to lab assistants, phlebotomist's, and trainees.
• Compiles and prepares reports; reviews and updates laboratory procedures.
• Provides in-service training to other laboratory personnel within a designated area.
• Performs clerical functions associated with the designated laboratory area.
• Attends meeting as needed.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff, and other departments as well as other hospitals that use services.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Possess a valid license as Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the State of California Department of Public Health.
• Must hold a current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate. You will have 30-day grace period to obtain your certificate from the date of hire.
• Two (2) to Three (3) years experience as Clinical Lab Technologist.
• Ability to work independently and with team, supervises and instructs others and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work across cultures and demonstrate support of diversity, equity and inclusion.
