Job summary

St. Rose Hospital is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist for the Per-Diem AM shift. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, you will perform critical lab testing and ensure quality service in reporting results. The ideal candidate holds a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License and has at least four years of relevant experience.

You will maintain a clean work environment, perform high-complexity testing, and notify care units of critical values. Bachelor degree in Biology is preferred with a focus in microbiology or chemistry.

Qualifications

• Current valid CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.
• Sexual Harassment/Bullying Prevention Certification required (within 1 month of hire).
• Minimum four years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Overview

Job Summary: Per-Diem AM shift. Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Section Leader, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory testing and promotes quality of service based on accuracy and timeliness in reporting results. Responsible for assisting the department manager in the effective operation of the laboratory through coordination of activities in their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, serology/immunology.
• Perform high-complexity testing.
• Follow established procedures to perform Routine and STAT clinical laboratory testing.
• Notify patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values according to policy.
• Follow established quality control procedures for all tests, including initiation of remedial action in out-of-control situations.
• Keep abreast of reference and critical values for neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to ensure appropriate physician notification for critical values by age group.
• Perform all Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing.
• Consult with other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow standard precautions at all times.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Qualifications

• Current valid CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.

• Minimum four years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist with focus in Microbiology, Chemistry/POCT/UA, Transfusion Services/Hematology or Phlebotomy/Reference preferred.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or related field preferred.
• Experience in Microbiology preferred.
