Job Description:

Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for a part-time Clinical Laboratory Assistant position in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. The assistant will report to the Department Chair of the Physical Therapist Assistant program and the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation (SHPS). Responsibilities include implementing assistive methods in practices and processes to maximize resources and support the goals of the School of Health and Patient Simulation.

Sample of Duties:
  • Support, guide, and instruct students in the laboratory setting, providing relevant and timely feedback.
  • Support the college's mission and address the educational and informational needs of SHPS students.
  • Interact professionally with students and support a diverse student population.
  • Uphold policies and regulations of the School of Health and Patient Simulation.
  • Submit reports and requests promptly to the Department Chair and Dean.
  • Attend departmental, school, and college meetings as required.
  • Mentor students' professional, ethical, and competent physical therapy practices.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and provide reports as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating student performance during clinical competencies and practicals.
  • Participate in campus rehab clinics providing ambulatory care and supervising students.
  • Supervise open lab times and maintain confidentiality and safety of laboratory equipment and space.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain all laboratory equipment and supplies, including inventory management.
  • Abide by the collective bargaining agreement and ensure proper utilization of learning materials.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in professional organizations and initiatives related to the School of Health and Patient Simulation.
  • Maintain and update professional and clinical competencies and certifications.
Requirements:
  • Massachusetts Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in good standing with at least two years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in ambulatory or inpatient physical therapy practice.
  • Licensed in MA as a PT or PTA.
  • Knowledge of accreditation guidelines for PTA education (CAPTE).
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds infrequently.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse populations.
  • Strong knowledge in physical agents, data collection, and therapeutic exercise.
