Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, based in Seattle, is seeking a laboratory leader to oversee Alliance Lab operations including quality improvement, training, and compliance with CLIA and CAP standards. The role requires strong communication and leadership across teams, with a focus on high-complexity testing and regulatory adherence.

The position emphasizes collaboration, integrity and patient-centered care, with a 1.0 FTE schedule and lab hours across weekdays and select weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science or equivalent training per CLIA requirements.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist certification with continuing education.
• 4 years of laboratory experience performing testing on human samples.
• At least 1 year in a lead/senior tech/coordinator role in a clinical lab.
• Knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations; ability to lead lab projects.

Responsibilities

• Support the Alliance Lab quality improvement/quality assurance program with the Lab Quality team and the Alliance Lab Technical & Compliance team.
• Recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluations; document continued competency and continuing education.
• Coordinate proficiency testing as required by lab accrediting agencies.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development, implementation, and revisions.
• Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations at institutional, state, and federal levels.
• Maintain instrumentation and inventories; recommend new instruments and supplies.
