Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Clinical Technologist to oversee blood bank operations, including type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification. The role involves managing plasma components, preparing samples for testing, and maintaining lab equipment and quality controls.

The ideal candidate has transfusion service or blood bank experience, a biology/MT degree, and NYS licensure or permitted status to practice clinical laboratory technology at WMC.

Qualifications

• Experience: Transfusion Service or as a Generalist with prior Blood Bank experience preferred.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science or MT.
• Licenses / Certifications: Clinical Lab Technologists issued by the New York State Education Department; or possession of a limited permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or restricted license to practice clinical laboratory technology at Westchester Medical Center issued by the New York State Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Performing type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification.
• Calculating and preparing blood for exchange transfusion.
• Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels.
• Recording all quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
• Ensuring all blood components intended for transfusion are in accordance with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP and NYBC.
• Handling other related functions as needed.

The Clinical Technologist is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.
