Job summary

Prisma Health in Richland Hospital's Laboratory-Microbiology team seeks a qualified professional to conduct routine and stat tests, ensuring accuracy under limited supervision.

The Day shift handles specimen processing, instrument operation, result reporting and adherence to safety guidelines, while verifying patient IDs and maintaining documentation. An Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent is required (ASCP/AMT).

Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technology Program Degree that meets ASCP or AMT requirements
• Experience: None defined.
• In lieu of education and experience noted above, a Bachelor’s degree in combination with a certificate/diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course (per DD214) may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and stat laboratory tests following established standards and practices under limited supervision.
• Operates instruments and equipment with precision; evaluates results and ensures validity before reporting.
• Verifies patient IDs, specimens and results; properly labels specimens and uses alternate ID procedures if needed.
• Instructs new employees, students and residents at the bench and documents proficiency.
• Maintains a clean, orderly work area; monitors supplies and expiration dates.
• Reviews pending logs and worksheets for accuracy; retains specimens for designated times and completes documentation.
• Observes safety rules, reports exposures, and follows biosafety protocols to protect patients and staff.
• Reports critical values per policy and documents verbal reports; records CE attendance.
