Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician to perform standardized tests on human tissue, fluids, and other substances in the clinical laboratory. Duties span chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, urinalysis and blood banking, with credentials and training aligned to GS-05/07 levels.

Applicants should demonstrate experience in inoculating specimens, inventory control, and accurate logbook logging, while complying with federal guidelines and required documentation.

Qualifications

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal service performing inoculation of microbiology specimens and inventory control.
• Experience or graduate education directly related to the work; blood collection may be required for some duties.
• Time-In-Grade requirements apply and must be met within 30 days of the closing date.

Responsibilities

• Inoculate microbiology specimens onto appropriate media following established procedures.
• Maintain inventory: receive supplies, rotate stock, and restock shelves and trays.
• Log referral specimens and reports into the log book and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
• Follow established methodology manuals and precedents for standardized procedures.
