Job summary

Labcorp in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team. The role involves evaluating specimen acceptability, performing testing per SOPs, monitoring and troubleshooting instruments, and ensuring accurate test results for quality patient care.

The position requires an Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science or related field, with preferences for 3+ months of clinical lab testing experience and ASCP/AMT certification.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits may meet education requirements.
• 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate PPE.

Education

Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology

non-traditional degrees with CLIA credits meeting education requirements
