Job summary

DCH Health System is seeking a Laboratory Technician to obtain specimens for testing and perform automated and non-automated lab procedures to deliver quality results for inpatient and outpatient care.

The role requires proficiency in collecting specimens across age groups, operating and maintaining instruments, and adhering to safety and documentation standards while supporting training and continuous education within the department.

Qualifications

• Certification (MT or CLS) is required within 18 months after employment from ASCP, NCA, AMT or AAB.
• Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Must read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary method on neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and urine drug screens per DOT specifications.
• Perform basic and advanced emergency, therapeutic, and diagnostic laboratory procedures with age-specific needs; calibrate, standardize, operate, maintain and troubleshoot instruments; perform QC.
• Document all tasks including QC, linearity tests, correlations, proficiency results, and specimen rejections.
• Adhere to infection control and safety policies; train and teach theory and practical applications as directed by management; participate in CE courses as needed.
• Inventory, order, and stock supplies; ensure proper storage and handling; assist in billing and order corrections.
• May serve as “Charge Tech” as required and participate in shared maintenance of assigned areas.
