Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a Clinical Lab Supervisor to lead the technical and operational activities of the designated laboratory section. The role focuses on maintaining high-quality testing and strong customer service while supervising staff and ensuring adherence to policies.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in clinical labs, 1 year in a supervisory role, and ASCP certification. Preferred experience includes NGS/DDPCR and Molecular lab work.

Qualifications

• 5 years clinical laboratory experience with 1 year in supervisory/leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in Med Tech or Med Lab Science.
• Current ASCP certification in one of the following: MT, Technologist in Hematology/Chemistry/Microbiology/Immunology, or Tech in Blood Banking/Microbiology as listed.
• Experience with NGS and DDPCR strongly preferred.
• Experience in Molecular section of lab strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises day-to-day activities of the laboratory section.
• Oversees staff to ensure work is accurate and completed within turn-around times and per policies.
• Drafts procedures and protocols; collaborates to implement technical/departmental procedures.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and represents the department in clinical programs.

Job description

The Clinical Lab Supervisor is responsible for the following:

• Supervises the technical and operational day-to-day activities of the laboratory section assigned.
• Supervises staff of an individual lab section ensuring all work performed in the section is accurate and completed within established or agreed upon turn-around times and in accordance with all policies and procedures.
• Drafts procedures/protocols as directed.
• Working with directors and managers establishes and implements technical and departmental procedures.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and serves as department representative to clinical programs as assigned by manager.
• Orients new employees and assures completion of all training, competency assessments, and mandatory education.
• Under guidance of the medical director and laboratory manager, monitors the testing program of the laboratory to ensure the highest quality of testing and the highest level of customer service.
• Leads individuals in work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that assures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.
• Interviews and recommends the selection of suitable candidates for employment.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, laws, and requirements of requisite agencies by employing appropriate systems/processes.
• Consistently administers the established criteria and processes for evaluation, promotion, and termination of all staff within designated area of responsibility.
• Supervises the section participation in studies, research, publications, and public presentations.
• May coordinate with area schools and universities for clinical rotations/training of students.

The Clinical Lab Supervisor must have the following:

• Experience with NGS and DDPCR strongly preferred.
• Experience in Molecular section of lab strongly preferred.
• 5 years clinical laboratory experience with 1 year in supervisory/leadership role

• Current registration/certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology ASCP in one of the following:

  1. Certified Medical Technologist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP),

  or

  2. Technologist registered/certified in one of the following:

  -Certified Technician in Hematology,

  -Certified Technician in Chemistry,

  -Certified Microbiology,

  -Certified Technician in Immunology,

  or

  3. Certified Tech in one of the following:

  -Blood Banking from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP),

  -Registered Microbiology from the American Association of Microbiology (AAM).

• Bachelor's degree in Med Tech or Med Lab Science
