Job summary

AHMC HealthCare is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to oversee and perform routine and STAT tests across Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. The CLS is responsible for accurate results, documentation, and policy adherence in a hospital laboratory setting.

Responsibilities include verification of patient identifiers, calibration and quality control, instrument problem reporting, and collaboration with physicians and nurses.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• A valid and current Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by the State of California.
• BCLS (AHA) within 90 days of hire.
• Conversational English required for physician, nurse, and patient contact.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Ability to work well under supervision and under stress.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient name and MR number before specimen collection or testing.
• Document calibration, quality control, and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Report instrument problems and document corrective actions.
• Perform start-up and shut-down procedures at shifts ends.
• Follow laboratory policies for tests on various instruments.
• Compare current results to previous results and resolve differences.
• Respond to abnormal values or flags as per policy.
• Participate in proficiency testing and monitor quality control.
• Maintain appropriate care instructions for patients and guardians.
• Assist in training other employees when requested.
• Maintain instrument maintenance and policy manuals.
• Batch testing to reduce testing costs when possible.
• Refer abnormal results to pathologists or supervisor as needed.
