Job summary

UNC Health Care is seeking Medical Laboratory Scientists I/II for a per diem, onsite role in Johnston Health Core Lab. Duties include performing Waived to high complexity CLIA testing and supporting patient care through accurate results.

MLS I requires no prior professional lab experience; MLS II requires appropriate ASCP/AMT certifications and experience per level. Salary range reflected per hour, onsite Clayton location.

Qualifications

• MLS I requires no prior professional laboratory experience.
• MLS II: MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) for Associate's Degree holders; ASCP categorical certification for BSc; MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT) for BSc holders.

Responsibilities

• Performs waived/POC, moderate, and high complexity CLIA testing as appropriate to role.
• Investigates and resolves problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
• Performs quality control, proficiency testing, and monitors accuracy of laboratory testing.
• Prepares reagents and assists in preparation of standard and control materials.
• Monitors reagent inventory and assists with maintaining laboratory supplies.
• Reviews test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
• Reports laboratory results and confers with healthcare providers as needed.
• Participates in teams or special projects and training of new staff.
• Serves as a technical resource and works under direction or independently based on experience level.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
