Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at the GS-11 level. This role operates in the Microbiology section, performing routine and STAT testing, maintaining instrumentation, and ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations.

Gear up for rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, with opportunities through EDRP support. Educational requirements include a bachelor’s degree and appropriate ASCP/AMT certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Certification as MLS Generalist, MT, or equivalent by ASCP/AMT is required.
• Possession of appropriate ASCP/AMT certification constitutes credentialing for CLS Generalist roles.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and STAT testing with quality control and maintenance of instrumentation.
• Evaluate and validate laboratory procedures and results to meet regulatory requirements.
• Correlate abnormal lab data with clinical states to determine test validity and need for additional tests.
• Provide education to laboratory health care professionals and the public in a professional manner.
• Work off-hour shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Follow schedules and adapt to rotating shifts as assigned.
