Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) in Hazard, KY seeks a Laboratory Assistant to perform basic laboratory tasks including specimen collection, preparation, and record-keeping under supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; some science classes desirable.
• Phlebotomy training completed within the last five years.
• Knowledge of specimen collection techniques and laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood by venipuncture and/or capillary punctures, and handles specimens.
• Performs physical part of urinalysis and prepares specimens for examination.
• Records specimens and maintains daily log sheets.
• Prepare media and equipment for tests, inoculates bacteriology specimens, and prepares parasitology specimens.
• May assist with autopsies where applicable and keep supplies stocked.
