Job summary

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant at ThedaCare performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes and may perform specimen collection. Schedule: Variable Nights and Days.

Location: TCS Shawano RHC in Shawano, Wisconsin. Responsibilities include specimen collection, waived testing support, and adherence to safety policies. This role requires High School diploma and 18+ years of age, with BLS certification as applicable.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Completion of BLS Certification will be required for candidates working at ThedaCare Medical Center – Wild Rose.

Responsibilities

• Obtains specimens from inpatients and outpatients following proper identification protocols and appropriate techniques to maintain the integrity of the specimens, and prioritizes collections to meet established turnaround times.
• Supports patient testing by performing waived testing, loading analyzers, and performing lab functions, as needed, to meet patient demands.
• Adheres to OSHA and ThedaCare department policies for specimen collection and handling to ensure a safe work environment.
• Provides training for new lab and non-lab team members to retain top talent.
• Performs specimen-related computer functions with accuracy and speed including entering physician’s orders, processing cancelations, and entering add-on tests to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Enters, activates, and/or reviews physician orders in the system with accuracy for patient safety and quality.
• Maintains supplies and assists with inventory and ordering to ensure the availability of supplies to perform patient care responsibilities.
• Performs special specimen collections (i.e., legal specimen collections) to support patient testing and follow up as required by law.
