Clinical Lab Assistant - Referred Testing, Full-Time, Days

Join Northwestern Memorial Hospital as a Clinical Lab Assistant - Referred Testing, Full-Time, Days.

Description: The Clinical Lab Assistant I reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with lab staff, ancillary departments, nurses, and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Receive specimens into the laboratory information system.
  • Input and retrieve lab results in the hospital's computer system.
  • Register specimen drop-offs, ensuring accurate data entry.
  • Distribute specimens to the appropriate testing areas.
  • Identify and solve problems with supervisor or coworker assistance as needed.
  • Perform waived testing under the direction of CLS.
  • Ensure proper sample types and containers are received for testing.
  • Communicate specimen rejections and critical results to clinical personnel, completing necessary documentation.
  • Review refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records, reporting issues as needed.
  • Follow lab procedures, including timely processing of outstanding orders.
  • Handle AP slides for second opinions and log returned materials.
  • Answer lab phone calls and triage appropriately.
  • Coordinate courier pickups as necessary.

Department Specific: May perform phlebotomy and other specimen collections according to age-specific standards.

Qualifications:

  • Required: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience in a general lab, specimen processing, or phlebotomy department
