Job summary

West Cancer Center in Memphis, TN seeks a Lab Assistant to support laboratory operations and patient care. You will prepare stains, solutions, and culture media, perform waived and moderately complex tests, and maintain accurate specimen records.

The role requires attention to detail, adaptability in a clinical setting, and a commitment to safety and infection control while collaborating with physicians and staff to ensure smooth workflows.

Qualifications

• Basic laboratory safety and infection control procedures.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Strong verbal communication with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
• Ability to work in a clinical environment with invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
• Physically able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand/walk/bend/kneel with fine motor skills.
• Good balance and hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to react quickly in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession, and process laboratory specimens.
• Prepare stains, solutions, and culture media for testing.
• Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA standards.
• Conduct venipuncture as requested by physicians.
• Maintain accurate specimen records and documentation.
• Monitor and maintain laboratory supply inventory.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure readiness.
• Model professionalism and adhere to safety, confidentiality, and infection control practices.
• Collaborate with physicians, staff, and patients to support seamless laboratory workflows.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lab Director.
