Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, seeks Laboratory Assistant I or II in Microbiology to safely handle infectious specimens, assess suitability, log and track samples, prepare and centrifuge specimens, label and route them to the testing areas, and maintain clean, compliant operations in a busy clinical lab.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's or Associate degree in clinical or related science field.
• ASCP MLA certification or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Safely handles potentially infectious specimens and related materials.
• Assesses suitability and acceptability of patient specimens.
• Matches order and specimen information for accuracy and safety.
• Prepares and processes specimens including labeling and centrifugation.
• Maintains logs, quality control, and disinfection procedures.
• Assists in transporting and routing specimens to testing areas.
