Job summary

Zoetis in Louisville, KY is seeking a Lab Assistant to support the Global Diagnostics team by performing essential lab tasks such as accessioning, sample preparation, and maintaining equipment. The role requires following ZRL SOPs and ensuring accurate record-keeping in logs and manifests.

You will handle specimens, transport them to departments, prepare them for testing across hematology, chemistry, and other areas, dispose of waste per regulations, and contribute to training of Lab Assistant I

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
• Veterinary laboratory experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unpack biological specimens in a timely manner.
• Accession integrated requisitions and/or manual requisitions against company targets.
• Transport samples to relevant departments in the lab with urgency.
• Handle and store all biological specimens per SOP.
• Prepare specimens for testing across departments including hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, and more.
• Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
• Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste per regulations.
• Fill out laboratory logs, maintenance logs, environmental logs, and cleaning logs.
• Maintain records such as medical records, courier logs, and manifests.
• Prepare specimens for shipment to offsite testing facilities per DOT standards.
• Receive, store, and log laboratory and office supplies.
• Operate and maintain equipment like centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, and slide stainers.
• Follow SOPs and Zoetis Reference Laboratories training modules.
• Execute duties with minimal oversight.
• Assist and facilitate training for Lab Assistant I role.
• Ad-hoc projects or tasks as assigned by management.
