Position Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term position at the Clinical Instructor level to join the UNC Assertive Community Treatment Team ( ACT ) operating in Wake County. ACT is an intensive, multi-disciplinary, community-based mental health service targeting adults with primary severe and persistent mental illness as well as co-occurring substance use disorders, chronic medical issues, and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities. ACT services target individuals who have significant functional impairments, as well as complicating treatment factors including frequent psychiatric hospitalizations, homelessness or housing instability, criminal justice involvement, or other barriers that limit engagement in more traditional office-based services.
This position is responsible for the coordination of ACTT services for an assigned group of individuals served by the ACT Team, including the assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence-based interventions, rehabilitation, and support services. Areas of focus for this position will be based on the needs of the team and caseload and could include evidence-based therapeutic modalities appropriate for the population, integrated dual disorders treatment for co-occurring disorders, housing, employment, psychiatric rehabilitation, among others. This position may participate in the supervision and training of interns/learners during rotations or placement with the ACT Team. This position participates in the rotation of the on-call crisis phone line and is expected to respond appropriately to calls within the required timeframe and consult with team leadership as needed. This position reports directly to the ACT Team Leader.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Applicant must hold a Master’s degree (by time of job start date) in a mental health or related field (Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology, etc) and have prior direct work experience with persons with severe, persistent mental illness. Must have a valid NC driver’s license as driving a state vehicle is required. Skills to establish supportive, trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights, self-determination and personal preferences in treatment are essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Candidates who hold, or are pursuing, a credential with the NCASPPB ( CDAC , LCAS , CCS ) are strongly encouraged to apply. Should have a strong commitment to recovery orientation, the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in integrated community settings; obtain competitive employment; and have access to competent, and continuous support services. Experience working in Assertive Community Treatment ( ACT ) or other community-based service models is preferred.
