Overview

Provides enterprise or departmental information systems support to Health System clinicians in the use of clinical information systems (interdisciplinary and specialty EHRs) as assigned. Assesses workflow-related processes/requirements to facilitate system enhancements and modifications. Recommends, implements, and supports approved system optimizations. Supports mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting facility standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with management and clinicians in designing, implementing and maintaining clinical systems.
  • Assists in the development of design specifications in support of new or modified clinical applications, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Documents current processes to establish a baseline for developmental improvements of future workflows. Analyzes, recommends and assists with implementing new and improved processes and workflows.
  • Acts as a liaison and represents the system users/customers in all project initiatives. Performs post implementation monitoring of adoption and use.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential uses of the information systems and potential optimization of current use of systems.
  • Supports the integration and use of evidence-based methods, tools, and guidelines linked to effective outcomes.
  • Supports data analytics, including quality of care measures, to improve population health outcomes and global health.
  • Supports clinical staff in the real‑time application of information to change healthcare delivery and affect patient outcomes.
  • Acts as a liaison to clinically related committees (e.g., Nursing Professional Practice Committee, Meditech Committee, Safety/Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, etc.) and staff to coordinate and communicate CIS projects and outcomes measurement.
  • Appraises computer and informational technologies for their applicability to nursing practice problems.
  • Participates in System‑Wide quality improvement program. Manages and implements departmental quality activities. Reports to the Quality Forum on a quarterly basis.
  • Develops and implements systems for documentation necessary to maintain accountability and compliance with external regulations and internal standards, and standardization within SMHCS.
  • Provides feedback to staff when opportunities for improvement/excellence are observed.
  • Ensures that the department goals, procedures and practices foster a therapeutic environment; are consistent with the organization’s mission, vision and values; and patient and family‑centered care.
  • Provides adequate opportunity for staff training and education. Ensures that staff meets in‑service requirements.
Requirements
  • Formal education: Master’s Degree preferred in Health‑Related field (required: BSN – New York State licensure).
  • Previous experience in Informatics in healthcare.
  • Certified Professional in Informatics preferred.
