This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive (San Diego, CA) and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Informatics Specialist III - Epic Reporting - Hybrid position supports UC San Diego Health's clinical, operational, and strategic reporting initiatives through the design, development, and optimization of enterprise analytics solutions. Leveraging Epic Reporting Workbench, Radar, Clarity, SAP Crystal Reports, Tableau, and SQL-based technologies, this role partners with clinicians, operational leaders, and informatics teams to deliver data-driven dashboards, reporting tools, and actionable insights that improve patient care, operational performance, and decision-making across the health system.

In this role, you will support a broad portfolio of reporting and analytics initiatives, including Epic upgrades, optimization efforts, and go-live activities. You will contribute to the development of innovative reporting solutions, support data-driven decision-making, and participate in the adoption of advanced analytics, automation, and emerging AI technologies that enhance healthcare delivery and operational efficiency. This position supports the end-to-end delivery of analytics solutions, from requirements gathering and design through development, validation, implementation, and ongoing optimization.

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with team members currently expected to work onsite approximately 20% of the time, while the remaining work may be performed remotely. Onsite presence may increase as needed to support operational priorities, stakeholder engagement, project work, Epic upgrades, optimization initiatives, go-live activities, training, or other organizational needs.

Hybrid work arrangements are reviewed periodically and may be modified based on departmental and business requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Seven (7) years of related healthcare analytics experience, education, and/or training; OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three (3) years of related healthcare analytics experience and/or training. Related experience includes professional experience developing and supporting reporting, analytics, and decision-support solutions within clinical information systems, healthcare applications, or enterprise data environments

• Broad and / or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical informatics specialty areas. Knowledge of controlled terminology, clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies and adoption of technology.

• Thorough knowledge of all relevant clinical informatics software and technology, and the complex concepts, principles, policies, methodologies, and industry standards and practices involved with patient care and electronic medical data management in the UC health care system.

• Detail oriented, with proven ability to effectively manage time, see projects through to completion, organize competing priorities, and effectively address complex, urgent issues as they arise.

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate productively, work in a team environment, and to train and support clinical informatics users at all professional and technical levels throughout the medical center.

• Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

• Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to select and run queries, collect and analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.

• Ability to work with senior staff and managers in clinical information technology, health care management, and business analytics, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to obtain certification in the assigned Epic application(s) within six (6) months of employment and successfully satisfy all vendor testing requirements.

• EPIC Certifications in Cogito, Clarity, and/or Caboodle.

• Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and Transact-SQL, including data analysis, query development, troubleshooting, and validation of healthcare data.

• Experience developing, maintaining, and optimizing stored procedures, views, and other database objects that support reporting, analytics, and operational workflows.

• Experience translating clinical, operational, and business requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions.

• Experience developing reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions using technologies such as Epic Reporting Workbench, Radar, Tableau, SAP Crystal Reports, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI Paginated Reports, Power BI, or similar reporting platforms.

• Experience partnering with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to gather requirements, define solution strategies, and support the implementation of analytics initiatives.

• Demonstrated knowledge of relational database concepts, data governance principles, and report development best practices.

• Experience supporting the full lifecycle of analytics solutions, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and ongoing optimization.

• Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative team environment.

• Advanced level experience with database management and various third-party report building tools such as Tableau, SAP Crystal Reports, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI Paginated Reports, Power BI.

• Experience working in a large, complex academic medical center or integrated healthcare delivery system.

• Demonstrated experience developing and supporting Epic reporting solutions using Clarity, Caboodle, Reporting Workbench, Radar, and SlicerDicer.

• Experience navigating Epic Chronicles data structures and translating operational or clinical requirements into executable reporting solutions.

• Experience utilizing automation, AI-enabled tools, or advanced analytics technologies to improve reporting, operational efficiency, or decision support.

• Knowledge of healthcare data domains including inpatient operations, ambulatory workflows, patient throughput, revenue cycle, quality metrics, and regulatory reporting.
