General Summary

  • The Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and coordinates exercise programs following the standard of the American College of Sports Medicine and American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab and administers medical tests, under supervision, to program participants by applying methods and modalities in an organized and systematic manner according to hospital/department policies. He/she will assist in the leading the activities of the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Program. He/she will assist the cardiopulmonary leadership team in development and quality assurance of new cardiovascular services and education events.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Assists, as needed, with clerical responsibilities, including but not limited to supply ordering, participant phone calls, data collections, payroll, etc. Assists the Manager in the development of quality assurance within the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab program. Participate in the all-intra departmental task or hospital wide committees as needed. Assist in the development and direction of Mock Codes and Competencies as required by AACVPR. Collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members to implement and coordinate comprehensive educational programs for optimal patient care

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or related field (required)

  • ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist (Required)
  • Experience with multi-disease populations (Required)
  • CPR Certification (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • AACVPR Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Understanding of CMS, Joint Commission and AACVPR guidelines. Demonstrate proficiency with all job tasks and skills relating to the role of a Clinical Exercise Physiologist within the role of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab. Strong Verbal Communications Skills, Strong Written Communications Skills, Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Basic Computer Skills, Excellent Organizational Skills, Strong Customer Services Skills, Proven Analytical Skills.
  2. Develops, implements, and coordinates exercise programs and administers medical tests, under supervision, to program participants by applying methods and modalities in an organized and systematic manner according to hospital/department policies. Interprets and utilizes clinical data in the treatment plan to establish reasonable and measurable treatment goals in stated periods according to unit protocol. Responds effectively in an emergency so that the patient's immediate needs are addressed and adheres to all infection control standards specific to patient care. Communicates to the healthcare team the patient's progress, changes in condition, the discharge plan and documents in accordance with established procedures. Documents evaluation, re-evaluation, plan, interventions, precaution, emergency interventions and patient education plan, activities, barriers to learning and outcomes in a clear and legible manner. Participates in discharge planning as appropriate and documents discharge assessments. Proficient in the use of emergency equipment; checks code cart/emergency equipment according to policy and facilitates transition of care to ED (if applicable). Assists with teaching group and individual education sessions.
  3. Creates an environment that motivates superior performance and climate of cooperation, recognition, contribution and stability. Utilizes effective techniques of conflict resolution. Collaborates with the patient, significant other, physicians, and ancillary departments to become a multidisciplinary healthcare team whose goal is to provide care that is continuous and well-coordinated. Maintains and uses material, supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner and contributes ideas for cost reductions or improved efficiency without sacrificing quality.
  4. Receive at least 35 points for the initial application and 20 criteria points for the recertification.
  5. Supervises at least 1 student per year.
  6. Participates in onboarding of new staff.
  7. Coordinates/completes chart audits.
  8. Responsible for oversight/maintenance of an area of operation. Ex. Phase III, Education, patient satisfaction, etc.
  9. Identifies resolves and/or escalates routine clinical and operational issues to department leadership for resolution, in order to assure high quality care, and efficient departmental operations.
  10. Assists with coordinating coverage and schedule

Pay Range: $25.64 - $32.29
