Summary

Supervises and oversees the performance of inpatient and/or outpatient stress testing or exercise and physical fitness testing in lieu of physician presence. Assesses the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise on the cardiac and/or high-risk patient population. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to deliver high-quality diagnostic tests/interventions.

Job Duties

• Determine appropriate stress exercise protocol based on medical history, evaluation, resting EKG, and indications.
• Recognize indications and contraindications for stress testing/intervention.
• Communicate with physicians regarding test questions, appropriateness, or patient condition changes.
• Prepare patients for testing, including explanation, understanding confirmation, and proper lead placement.
• Supervise stress testing/interventions, monitor responses, and ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Evaluate patient responses and detect abnormal responses.
• Recognize end-points for testing and treatment sessions.
• Document and interpret testing data for physicians.
• Assess need for physician presence during tests.
• Perform holter monitor analysis as needed.
• Support supervision and onboarding of new staff and interns.
• Provide patient education on exercise, health, and lifestyle modifications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Exercise Science/Physiology.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics.
• Knowledge of cardiac exercise protocols and rhythm recognition.
• Critical thinking and emergency response skills.
• Ability to multitask and work independently.
• Proficiency with PC software.
• Ability to develop individualized exercise prescriptions.
• Knowledge of cardiac risk factors and lifestyle modifications.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, ACSM, CCRP (within 1 year).

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical internship in diagnostic stress testing.
• Advanced ECG training and dysrhythmia recognition.
• One year of cardiovascular stress testing or rehab experience.

Physical Demands

Lift/carry 25 lbs., frequent sitting/standing, keyboard use, and activities like kneeling, bending, squatting, or CPR as role requires.
