Banner University Medical Center Tucson seeks a Clinical Director for HLA to provide scientific and clinical direction to the HLA clinical laboratory, part of the statewide transplant team. The role includes oversight of personnel, consultations with physicians, and mentoring future leaders in HLA.

This position offers engagement with research studies and clinical trials through a collaboration with the University of Arizona and teaching responsibilities within the academic medical center.

Qualifications

  • PhD in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
  • Two years of appropriate specialty experience.
  • ACHI board certification in Solid Organ Transplantation: Live Donor; Deceased Donor; Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Related Donor; Unrelated Donor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and clinical direction to the HLA clinical laboratory and report to senior leadership and Medical Director.
  • Oversee licensed and unlicensed personnel in the HLA department and mentor candidates for HLA Director in Training (DIT).
  • Perform technical interpretation of results and consultations with physicians; supervise research projects and implement new assays and QA.

This position will provide scientific and clinical direction to the HLA clinical laboratory as part of the greater transplant team serving multiple locations statewide for the oldest, most established transplant hospitals in all of Arizona. Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing scientific and clinical direction to the HLA clinical laboratory and reports to a designated member of the SQL/LSA senior leadership team and a Medical Director. This position is responsible for oversight of all licensed and unlicensed personnel in the HLA department and serves as a mentor and assists in the development of HLA Director in Training (DIT) candidates per ACHI. Responsible for providing technical interpretation of results, providing consultations with physicians, overseeing research projects, implementing new assays/assay troubleshooting, quality assurance, and reviewing SOPs. Assumes Clinical Consultant responsibilities and participates on site and system-level committees as assigned/required. This position will hold a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona Department of Pathology.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
  • Two (2) years appropriate specialty experience.
  • Board certification by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) in the following areas of accreditation:
    • Solid Organ Transplantation: Live Donor
    • Solid Organ Transplantation: Deceased Donor
    • Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Related Donor
    • Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Unrelated Donor
