Sonora Quest Laboratories/Laboratory Sciences of Arizona seeks an experienced leader to direct and manage assigned pathology departments. You will oversee staffing, workflows, and regional coordination to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services.

This position develops, directs and manages assigned department(s) and/or location(s) to effectively meet organizational objectives. Directs, organizes and controls all aspects of pathology processes to provide high quality and cost-effective services. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
Non-exempt clinical staff; may include exempt staff.
Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations, and manages the workflow for staff. This includes initiating promotions, transfers, and performance management actions. Serves as a regional liaison for other regional locations.
Administrative responsibility of providing quality, timely, reliable and consistent services. Internal and external customers include laboratory staff, hospital staff, physicians’ offices, patients, pathologists, medical directors, vendors, regulatory agencies and educational facilities. Confers with director to determine how to best accomplish functions within established procedures and guidelines including FTE’s and expense budgets. Confers with director(s) for unusual situations.
Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood, tissue and body fluids. Needs adequate color vision. Requires significant use of computer, phone and general office equipment. Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects routinely. Ability to communicate effectively. May require off-site travel.
Good working knowledge of regulatory and accrediting requirements - The Joint Commission, CAP, CMS, OSHA, etc. Ability to influence Nursing and other ancillary teams, to obtain a consensus to best support pathology services. Effective interpersonal skills to interface with hospital leadership. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use presentation skills to disseminate information and to gain consensus of customers. Ability to work under strict time constraints and to manage multiple priorities. Ability to solve problems and work as part of a team.
Associate degree in healthcare or science related field. Six (6) years’ clinical laboratory experience in a high-complexity testing environment or pathology experience. Two (2) years’ supervisory experience.
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or science related field. Workplace experience in a hospital or commercial laboratory or healthcare Experience using Six Sigma or Lean practices to optimize operations processes and project improvements. Certification as a HT, PA, cytologist Additional related education and/or experience.
