Principal accountabilities include:

  1. Planning, directly participating in, and documenting all aspects of the nutritional care of patients in assigned areas.
  2. Performing nutritional assessments and documenting nutrition diagnoses based on guidelines outlined by the nutrition care process.
  3. Discussing the nutrition diagnosis and providing nutrition counseling that outlines nutrition goals with patients, families, and other team members when possible.
  4. Collaborating with internal and external resources to implement the nutritional care plan.
  5. Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the patient's nutrition care plan and revising it as needed.
  6. Relating basic principles of nutrition to staff, healthcare team members, and the community.
  7. Reviewing current research to enhance professional practice.
  8. Serving on at least one hospital committee and providing feedback impacting decisions affecting the department, hospital, and community.
  9. Demonstrating awareness of professional time management, using time efficiently, and being open to change with minimal loss of efficacy.
Job Requirements
  • As of 1/1/24, new practitioners must have a Master’s Degree in Dietetics. If eligible or registered prior to 1/1/24, a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics is required.
  • Dietetic limited permit is accepted upon hire.
  • Required to pass the RD exam within 6 months of hire. Applicants not on a limited permit must have Ohio Licensure AND Registration.
  • General clinical knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Up to 1 year of experience in a related field.
Job Responsibilities

Clinical Competency/Continued Education: Utilizes all components of the Nutrition Care Process in care planning. Writes appropriate PES statements and documents discharge plans consistently. Evaluates and monitors the effects of nutrition plans and makes changes as needed. Keeps abreast of new nutrition research through continuing education, attending at least one session annually, and maintains CDR education records.

Patient Education: Assesses patient's learning needs, including cultural and religious beliefs, emotional and age-specific barriers, motivation, and diet history. Individualizes intervention goals with complete documentation.

Projects: Completes small projects such as updating clinical resources, publishing nutrition articles, leading educational sessions, or organizing journal clubs.

Time Management/Flexibility: Demonstrates professional time management, meets patient ratio goals, and adjusts schedules to meet daily needs.

New Hire/Training and Development: Creates a welcoming environment, reviews trainee documentation, observes patient interactions, and provides constructive feedback during training.

Leadership/Teamwork: Provides feedback to advance initiatives during department discussions.
