Job Description

Optional as needed, great opportunity!

  1. Plan, participate in, and document all aspects of the nutritional care of patients in assigned areas.
  2. Perform nutritional assessments and document nutrition diagnoses based on guidelines outlined by the nutrition care process.
  3. Discuss nutrition diagnoses and provide counseling that outlines nutrition goals with patients, families, and team members when possible.
  4. Collaborate with internal and external resources to implement the nutritional care plan.
  5. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the patient's nutrition care plan and revise as needed.
  6. Relate basic principles of nutrition to staff, healthcare team members, and the community.
  7. Review current research to enhance professional practice.
  8. Serve on at least one hospital committee and provide feedback impacting decisions affecting the department, hospital, and community.
  9. Demonstrate effective time management and adaptability to change.

Job Requirements

  1. As of 1/1/24, new practitioners need a Master’s Degree in Dietetics; if eligible or registered prior to this date, a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics is required.
  2. Dietetic limited permit accepted upon hire.
  3. Pass the RD exam within 6 months of hire. Applicants not on a limited permit must have Ohio Licensure and Registration.
  4. Basic clinical knowledge of adult learning principles.
  5. Up to 1 year of related experience.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Utilize all components of the Nutrition Care Process in care planning and documentation.
  2. Assess patient learning needs and individualize intervention goals.
  3. Complete small projects or initiatives, such as updating clinical resources or organizing journal clubs.
  4. Demonstrate flexibility and effective time management.
  5. Provide training and feedback to trainees and new hires.
  6. Contribute to team discussions and initiatives.

Working conditions include occasional climbing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, and use of hands. Visual and auditory requirements are also specified.
