• Changing the Future of Clinical Nutrition: The Clinical Nutrition Department serves patient populations including: Oncology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Solid Organ Transplant, ICU, and many more! Allied Health team members serve on the front lines with opportunities to:
o Provide personalized care by developing and implementing individualized nutrition care plans for each patient.
o Work in a collaborative environment as part of the multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and more, where your expertise in nutrition is valued and integral to comprehensive patient care.
o Practice advanced nutrition therapy by providing medical nutrition therapy, including enteral and parenteral nutrition to patients facing challenges with oral intake.

The Clinical Nutrition Department gives staff the opportunity to specialize in unique patient populations through service line assignments, have protected, paid time to work on approved projects, attend 40 hours’ worth of applicable conferences per year, and up to $2,000 of tuition reimbursement per year to feel supported in and outside of their role.

Shift / Schedule:
• Full-time (1.0 FTE), 8-hour, Day Shift
• Rotating weekend shifts (4-5 weekends per year) and holidays.

A Brief Overview
The Clinical Dietitian II works closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities: application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, development and implementation of nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluation of the patient's progress. The Clinical Dietitian II uses the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) to determine scope of practice, established Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (SOP/SOPP) in nutrition care and practice-specific dietetics, and, as available, evidence-based practice protocols/nutrition practice guidelines to help determine nutrition intervention(s).

The Clinical Dietitian II functions independently at the competent to proficient level of the SOP/SOPP to provide nutrition care to patients, including complex patient types. Clinical Dietitians II serve as a mentor, resource, and leader for the Clinical Dietitian I.

What you will do

  • Able to perform all functions of Clinical Dietitian I.
  • Works with a moderate degree of professional autonomy and independent practice using diagnostic reasoning skills in the application of the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Assists in the oversight of the Nutrition Care Process in assigned area and applies research to refine department standards of care in that specialty area.
  • Performs key role in at least one performance improvement initiative annually or the creation/revision of nutrition protocols or nutrition program.
  • Participates in process and outcome measures initiatives using quantifiable indicators to identify actual results of a program, service, or activity. Or, participates in nutrition research studies and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publications.
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer to Clinical Dietitians I.
  • Serves as mentor for dietetic students and interns. Develops and coordinates student and intern learning experience.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or nutrition related field or a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Dietetics (formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education)
  • Master’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or specialty area preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of work experience as a clinical dietitian AND at least one (1) specialty certification granted by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Board, Certified Nutrition Support Specialist (CNSC) or Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or
  • Three (3) years full time equivalent work experience as a clinical dietitian in a relevant setting providing care to complex patients


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps of the process
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy
  • General knowledge of electronic medical record, nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written, verbal, and electronic form to patients, public, hospital/clinic and medical staff, and physicians
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units and/or outpatient clinics
  • Ability to counsel and educate others
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations
  • Decision making, problem solving, and collaboration


Licenses and Certifications

  • RD - Registered Dietitian and
  • RDN - Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $46.85 - $60.90 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
