Reports To: Medical Director and/or Administrator
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Shift between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Exact hours determined during interview)
Position Summary:
The Registered Dietitian provides comprehensive nutritional care to patients with special dietary needs or those identified at nutritional risk. This role includes performing assessments, developing and monitoring individualized care plans, offering patient and family education, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes. The Dietitian ensures compliance with regulatory standards and maintains accurate documentation of all interventions and outcomes. This position requires both clinical expertise and strong communication skills, contributing to the overall quality of care and service within the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct dietary assessments and document progress notes detailing counseling and diet instructions in the patient’s medical record.
- Determine nutritional needs based on chart reviews, collaboration with medical staff, and patient interviews.
- Calculate and authorize special and weighted diets according to physician orders.
- Approve food substitutions in alignment with dietary restrictions and individual needs.
- Monitor and evaluate patient response to dietary interventions, making necessary adjustments to ensure effectiveness.
- Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling on both normal and therapeutic dietary requirements.
- Inspect food preparation and meal service to ensure compliance with prescribed diets, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with administration regularly to discuss progress, set goals, and implement improvements.
- May oversee menu planning, purchasing, and food preparation processes.
- Promote food service practices that ensure nutritional value and visual appeal of meals.
- Assist in creating menus and nourishment plans tailored to patient populations.
- Develop and deliver in-service training sessions for dietary staff and other relevant personnel.
- Contribute to the development of facility policies, particularly those related to dietary services and procedures.
- Submit monthly written reports to the Medical Director as needed.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and maintain professional standards in all interactions.
- Demonstrate loyalty to the agency's mission and a commitment to providing high-quality care.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
- Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Preferred:
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
- Experience working in an acute psychiatric facility is highly desirable. (preferred)
