Job summary

Children's Health in Dallas seeks a Clinical Dietitian to provide evidence-based nutritional care across a fast-paced clinical setting. You will participate in interprofessional rounds, assess and intervene for nutrition-related needs, and mentor interns and residents to ensure high-quality patient care.

The role emphasizes nutrition assessment, diagnosis, and outcomes evaluation, with opportunities to train staff and contribute to education and quality initiatives within Clinical Nutrition.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or related field is required.
• Master's degree with completion of ACEND supervised practice for Dietitians graduating after Jan 2024 is required.
• License and registration requirements (LD, RD, NPI) within 90 days of start date are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical nutrition therapy through nutrition assessment, diagnosis, interventions, monitoring and evaluation of outcomes for patients.
• Write nutrition orders per protocol where applicable.
• Serve as a nutrition resource for hospital staff, patients, families and community.
• Document nutrition care in medical records and coordinate handoffs across care levels.
• Demonstrate critical thinking in clinical practice and manage time for time-sensitive interventions.
• Calculate formula recipes for hospital and home use and develop related recipes.
• Understand and manage parenteral nutrition (TPN) initiation, advancement, and weaning.
• Identify appropriate enteral nutrition modalities and formulas based on disease state.
• Identify malnutrition and propose appropriate interventions per severity.

Summary

Provide competent nutritional care to patients through nutritional assessment, diagnosis, interventions, monitoring, and evaluation of outcomes. Active participant in the interdisciplinary team. Works well in a fast-paced clinical setting. Communicates information effectively to providers, families, and patients in a developmentally appropriate manner. Ensures nutritional information reflects evidence based practice. Provides training and development to interns, dietitians, and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical nutrition therapy through nutrition assessment, diagnosis, interventions, monitoring and evaluation of outcomes for patients
• May write nutrition orders per medical nutrition therapy protocol
• Serve as a nutrition resource for the hospital, staff, patient, families and the community
• Document nutrition care effectively within medical records and facilitate handoff to different levels of care and care providers
• Demonstrates critical thinking in clinical practice through patient prioritization, evaluating potential implications of treatment decisions, utilizing resources to guide clinical decisions, and managing time efficiently for time sensitive clinical interventions
• Calculate formula recipes for hospital and discharge. Create formula lab and home recipes utilizing hand calculations and electronic application program. Calculate formula concentration and dose additives for hospital and home recipes.
• Have knowledge of appropriate parenteral nutrition (TPN) management including initiation, advancement, and weaning. Recommend parenteral nutrition macronutrient and micronutrient composition based on disease state.
• Demonstrate understanding of enteral nutrition feeding types and modalities based on disease state. Identify appropriate formula type, composition, administration, and schedule for patients in the home and hospital setting.
• Identify and document malnutrition and recommend appropriate interventions based on severity of malnutrition
• May review and analyze nutritional lab values and nutrition-related medications/supplement. Communicate recommendations to providers and families
• Participates in teaching/patient rounds for assigned patients and service areas
• Train dietetic interns, clinical dietitians, and medical residents and fellows
• Provide clear, effective, and professional communication to patients and family, staff, and community
• Complete administrative tasks, such as patient and non patient related phone calls and e-mails, ongoing required competencies, etc
• Attend various meeting, committee involvement, contribute to projects and give presentations

Work Experience

• At least 1 year job category-specific experience Preferred
• At least 1 year For End Stage Renal Disease only: minimum 1 year professional work experience in clinical dietetics after becoming a registered dietitian. (Does not include internship experience) Required

EDUCATION

• Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Required
• Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Master's degree with completion of required coursework and supervised practice as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) for Dietitians graduating after January 2024 Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• State Dietetic License (i.e. LD - Licensed Dietitian) 90 Days Required
• National Dietetic Registration (i.e. RD - Registered Dietitian) 90 Days Required
• National Provider Identification Number (NPI) 90 Days Required
