Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual direct clinical interventions to a diverse student population across a broad range of presenting issues.
  • Prepares and plans for counseling sessions; completes clinical documents per HIPAA standards.
  • Conducts crisis assessment and intervention and arranges emergency psychiatric assessment as needed.
  • Creates and maintains a professional, welcoming environment for individuals visiting the Wellness Center for services and information.
  • Meets with walk-in clients to assess their immediate or emergency needs, and provides crisis counseling and intervention services as needed. Provides referrals to appropriate health and social service agencies for additional services as required.
  • Provides short term counseling and coaching to clients to address problems and develop coping mechanisms and skills to deals with issues of stress, time management and organization.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy and other direct clinical interventions to a diverse student population across a broad range of presenting issues.
  • Serves as consultant to college staff and faculty for student development issues, behavioral threat assessment, classroom behavioral management, and the overall behavioral health of the college community.
  • Maintains case records and data on services provided by the Wellness Center, and creates reports evaluating the effectiveness of services.

Description

The Part-Time Counselor is a grant-funded position responsible for providing short-term, solution-focused mental health services to a diverse student population through the College's Wellness Center. This role delivers individual and group counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and case management services to support student well-being and academic success. The Counselor also collaborates with faculty and staff on student behavioral health concerns and contributes to a safe and supportive campus environment.

This position requires adherence to professional and ethical standards, including timely clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and participation in data collection and reporting to support grant outcomes. The role is temporary and contingent upon grant funding, with services provided during the remainder of the spring 2026 semester and fall 2026 semester, as determined by program needs.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Specific Functional Job Requirements
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited college or university, OR a Master's degree in Social Work (M.S.W.); OR a Master's degree (M.A., M.S., M.Ed.) in Counseling Psychology or a related field.
  • Must be currently licensed by the State of Illinois as a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or a Clinical Psychologist
