Central College is seeking a Part‑Time Staff Counselor to provide short‑term mental health counseling and crisis assessment for students. Under the Lead Counselor, you will ensure timely access to services and maintain accurate clinical records while collaborating with campus partners to support student well‑being.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in a relevant field and is licensed or license‑eligible in Iowa, with experience in individual counseling and crisis intervention.

Qualifications

• Experience providing individual counseling.
• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide short-term individual counseling for students.

• Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and Student Development colleagues; participate in meetings.

Description

The Part-Time Staff Counselor provides short-term mental health counseling, crisis assessment, referrals, consultation, and clinical documentation for Central College students. Working under the direction of the Lead Counselor, this position helps ensure students have timely access to quality mental health services while maintaining accurate clinical records and collaborating with campus partners to support student well-being.

Clinical Counseling

• Provide short-term individual counseling for students experiencing personal, emotional, behavioral, or psychological concerns.
• Conduct intake assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Assess and respond to students experiencing mental health crises, consulting with the Lead Counselor as appropriate.
• Make referrals to community providers or higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
• Maintain professional and ethical standards consistent with applicable licensing requirements and the American Counseling Association.

Clinical Documentation

• Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional standards and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Complete required documentation, case notes, treatment plans, referrals, and other clinical records.

Consultation & Collaboration

• Consult with faculty, staff, and Student Development colleagues while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Collaborate regularly with the Lead Counselor regarding student care, crisis response, and referral planning.
• Participate in Counseling Center meetings and case consultation.

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in required trainings and professional development.
• Assist with Counseling Center operations as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
