Mission or Goal of Department

The mission of the Cardiovascular Perfusion Division, housed withinthe College of Health Professions' Department of Nurse Anesthesia,is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary tofunction as part of an interprofessional team, serving the publicthrough the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and high-qualityperfusion services. We strive to develop leaders and scholars whowill advance the specialty of cardiovascular perfusion throughresearch, scholarship, and public service. We invite candidates toapply for a 12-month tenure-track or non-tenure-track facultyposition.

Clinical Coordinator Summary

The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating andoverseeing day-to-day clinical operations in the proposed Master ofScience in Cardiovascular Perfusion (MSCP) program, to be initiatedin 2026. The Clinical Coordinator will assist the MSCP ProgramDirector in ensuring that clinical operations accurately reflectthe missions of the Department, College, and University, as well asthose of all external accrediting bodies. The Clinical Coordinatorserves as a liaison between the program and other departmentsthroughout the University and affiliate clinical sites.

Reporting Structure

The Clinical Coordinator for the cardiovascular perfusion programreports to the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Chair but worksclosely with the MSCP Program Director, faculty, staff, students,and university stakeholders, keeping them informed of all pertinentclinical issues and processes.

Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of clinical educationoperations for the proposed MSCP program.
• Ensure compliance with the accreditation standards of theCommission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs -Perfusion Education (CAAHEP-PE) by overseeing clinical site visits,student documentation, affiliation agreements, and relatedreporting requirements.
• Coordinate clinical placement and performance monitoring,including regular review of student case logs, progress reports,and documentation of clinical experiences.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies related to clinicalaffairs in collaboration with the MSCP Program Director, includingstandards for performance, evaluation, and studentrecord-keeping.
• Communicate regularly with clinical site coordinators andpreceptors, providing updates, feedback, and support to ensurehigh-quality clinical education across all regional sites.
• Establish and maintain communication and relationships withcurrent and future clinical sites.
• Lead and respond to clinical performance concerns, includingstudent counseling, development of success plans, and coordinationwith clinical faculty and site coordinators.
• Facilitate student onboarding and training for clinical sites,including coordination of site-specific requirements such aselectronic medical record training and equipment in-services.
• Collaborate in clinical faculty development, includingassessment of professional development needs and support forcontinuing education initiatives.
• Regular presence at the Richmond, VA program site isrequired.

Faculty Responsibilities

Teaching:

• Coordinate assigned courses in the Master of Science inCardiovascular Perfusion (MSCP) program following the teachingworkload policies of the College of Health Professions.
• Teach assigned content areas in courses throughout thecurriculum of the MSCP program, consistent with areas of knowledge,skill, and departmentneeds.
• Deliver course content and provide timely evaluation ofgraduate students according to university policies and departmentguidelines.
• Serve as an academic advisor for graduate students enrolled inthe MSCP program.
• Serve as a thesis project committee chair and/or memberthroughout their program enrollment.

Scholarship:

• Engage in scholarly activities to enhance knowledge incardiovascular perfusion.
• Disseminate research findings via scholarly writing andpublication; write, publish, and/or present scholarly documents toadvance the knowledge base of the cardiovascular perfusionprofession.
• Design and conduct scholarly initiatives, including acquiringgrant funding and overseeing research projects.

Service:

• Actively participate in department quality improvementactivities related to course design, development, andevaluation.
• Serve on department, school, university, and professionalcommittees and engage in other forms of professional service.
• Provide professional and community service in an area ofexpertise.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Earned Master degree in a related area.
• Ability to complement and expand existing expertise in thedepartment.
• Junior faculty members will be required to demonstratepotential for securing external funding and scholarships, or forcreative expression, to complement and expand their existingexpertise in the department.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
• Valid certification from the American Board of CardiovascularPerfusion as a Clinical Cardiovascular Perfusionist (CCP).
• Five years of experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist.
• Two years of experience as an instructor in an accreditededucational program in perfusion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ten years of experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist.
• Experience with both adult and pediatric perfusion.
• Experience with all types of surgeries and procedures,including CABG, Valves, Aortic, VADs, ECMO, Transplants,HIPEC.
• Strong communication skills as evidenced through prior publicspeaking engagements, presentations, and/or writtenscholarship.
• Evidence of career development and growth in teaching, service,scholarship, and administration.
• Experience in curriculum design and program evaluation inhigher education.
• Experience with using a learning management system, such asCanvas or Blackboard.
• Education or experience in item writing in perfusion.
• Experience in hands-on, simulation-based teaching.
• Post-doctoral research training and/or experience with grantwriting.
• Background and experience in research, clinical practice, andteaching in perfusion.
• Ability to travel as necessary to fulfill teaching, service,and scholarship requirements of the department.

Salary Range: $185,000+ (commensurate with experience)
