Role Overview

The Clinical Coordinator – Operating Room provides clinical leadership and coordinates patient care, staffing, scheduling and daily operating room workflow in a fast-paced acute care environment.

The role supports safe, efficient patient flow, ensures compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, provides guidance and coaching to nursing staff, and works closely with anesthesia, nursing, surgical and multidisciplinary teams to optimize department operations and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Review staffing schedules, create on-call schedules and make assignments based on census, patient volume and department needs.
• Coordinate staffing coverage and proactively adjust assignments to support efficient patient flow.
• Collaborate with nursing leadership and Anesthesia to manage add-ons, transfers and urgent clinical needs.
• Monitor attendance and communicate discrepancies in accordance with attendance policies.
• Lead department huddles and support high standards of patient service and experience.
• Communicate hospital updates, performance metrics and patient perception survey results.
• Provide mentoring, coaching and feedback to clinical staff and volunteers.
• Promote staff engagement, accountability, teamwork and effective communication.
• Coordinate handoff reports and communicate assignments across the care team.
• Conduct ongoing huddles and facilitate effective interdisciplinary communication.
• Audit patient charts, consents, orders, histories and physicals, and ensure appropriate plans of care are established.
• Oversee and optimize operating room workflow, particularly during periods of high census.
• Support RNs and clinical teams with urgent anesthesia-related issues.
• Ensure completion and accuracy of surgical documentation, including consents, laboratory results, H&Ps and patient histories.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow optimization.
• Participate in improvement projects using structured methodologies and tools.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during daily care planning and promote a Family-Centered Care environment.
• Participate in performance review processes through chart audits, documentation reviews and incident report validation.
• Conduct EMR-based chart audits to support regulatory compliance and achieve required CEI standards.
• Monitor and maintain infection prevention and control standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable DNV, CMS, Department of Health and other accreditation requirements.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida or a Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) license.
• American Heart Association BLS certification, maintained throughout employment.
• AHA PALS certification required within one year of hire.
• Minimum 2 years of adult or pediatric RN experience in an acute care healthcare environment.
• Previous experience managing the day-to-day operations of a nursing unit.
• BSN degree or currently enrolled in a BSN program.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management, conflict resolution and organizational skills.
• Ability to provide direction, coach and mentor nursing staff.
• Ability to hold team members accountable and address performance or behavioral concerns appropriately.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in surgical nursing within an acute care facility.
• Pediatric Nurse Certification (CPN) or Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification, or equivalent national certification.
• AORN surgical standards knowledge.
• NRP and/or ACLS certification.
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and healthcare technology.Experience with operating room coordination, surgical scheduling or perioperative nursing.
• Experience with healthcare quality, regulatory compliance and clinical audits.
