The purpose of the Audiologist is to provide hearing health care services of the highest quality to exceed external and internal customer expectations and to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical office operations.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Administers comprehensive hearing and balance evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment, using specialized instruments and equipment. Manages the audiology function/department on a day to day basis, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, work methods and standards practice.
  • Identifies, assesses diagnoses, manages, and interprets test results related to disorders of human hearing, balance, and other neural systems.
  • Performs otoscopic examination and external ear canal management for the removal of cerumen in order to evaluate hearing or balance, makes ear impressions, fits hearing protection or prosthetic devices, and monitors the continuous use of hearing aids.
  • Conducts and interprets behavioral, electroacoustic, or electrophysiologic methods used to assess hearing, balance, and neural system function.
  • Measures and interprets sensory and motor-evoked potentials, electromyography, and other electrodiagnostic tests for purposes of neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring and cranial nerve assessment.
  • Performs all service and duties in a manner consistent with SFENTA’s policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Supervises professional and technical personnel who provide support functions to the practice of audiology.
  • Oversees the completion and quality of the work assigned to Audiology Assistant and Audiology technician.
  • Manages employee performance through coaching, appraising and motivating. Sets staff performance goals and monitors progress.
  • Delegates the necessary authority and control of resources for employees to accomplish the objectives for which they are held accountable.
  • Organizes the relationship between different functions within the department so that resources are used efficiently.

Completes documentation necessary to assure compliance with SFENTA policy, regulatory compliance and to maintain accuracy of patient medical records. Oversees activities to support effective marketing initiatives to increase awareness of available technology by educating patients, staff and referring physicians which will result in increased sales at the care center level.

  • Reports patient test results to originating referral source or appropriate staff member for tracking and documentation.
  • Maintains patient records at all stages, including initial evaluation and discharge.
  • Monitors patients’ progress and discharges them from treatment when goals have been attained.
  • Assists with retrieval of patient information from electronic data systems or other sources as needed.
  • On an ongoing basis, reviews SFENTA clinical procedures, processes and systems and recommends improvements as necessary.
  • Works with multi-disciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of implanted hearing devices.
  • Conducts or directs research on hearing or speech topics and reports findings to help in the development of procedures, technology, or marketing.
  • Recommends assistive devices according to patients' needs or nature of impairments.
  • Develops and supervises hearing screening programs.
  • Instructs patients, or employers on how to avoid behavior patterns that lead to miscommunication.
  • Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.
  • Measures noise levels in workplaces and conducts hearing protection programs.
Required Education and Experience
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Audiology
  • At least two years of experience in a clinical setting
