Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia seeks a part-time Clinical Associate for the 8 Mountain ICU night shift. This role provides basic clinical services to patients and clerical support to the unit health-care team in a 12-bed ICU with sepsis-focused care.

Required: High school diploma or GED, AHA BLS-HCP, and strong interpersonal/communication skills. No prior experience required; orientation is daytime, first two weeks. Compensation ranges from $18.70 to $26.18 per hour plus benefits.

• Experience: none
• Licensure, certification, and/or registration: none unless the following: Critical Access Area - Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills. Must be organized and self -motivated. Must have knowledge of office procedure and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
• May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
• Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
• Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
• Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage.

8 MICU - This 12 bed ICU specializes in the care of the Intensivist Medicine patients, with specialized focus on sepsis and septic shock. This is a closed ICU model of care.

Here is an opportunity to thrive and bring your valuable skills to life within a setting known for providing the best quality care to patients. As a clinical associate, you will provide basic clinical services to patients and clerical support to the unit health-care team.

• Successful candidate MUST BE able to attend required orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks. These classes are mandatory!
• Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
• May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
• Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed.
• Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
• May assist with chart audits.
• May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients.
• May participate in the sitter process
• Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals.
• Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
• Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage.
• Operates and maintains general office equipment. Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies.
• Serves as a resource for department/unit software system.
• Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds.
• Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit.

Compensation Range

• $18.70 - $26.18 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
