As a clinical associate, you will provide basic clinical services to patients and clerical support to the unit health-care team. Carilion Children’s Pediatrics is a 24 bed unit that provides specialized care to patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations consist of general medical and surgical conditions that require inpatient services and also serves as a step down unit when necessary. Direct nursing care is provided by Registered Nurses and Clinical Associates. The patient population consists of, but is not limited to, diabetes, respiratory illness, oncology, general and neurological surgeries, intestinal disorders, seizures, infectious disease, cardiac abnormalities and trauma. This position is FLEX, working the day/evening/night shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration. May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes. Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed. Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility. May assist with chart audits. May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients. May participate in the sitter process. Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals. Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages. Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage. Operates and maintains general office equipment. Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies. Serves as a resource for department/unit software system. Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds. Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit.
Note: employee must attend mandatory orientation classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks of employment. All classes require to be in person except for 2 online classes.
