Qualifications

  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License required.

The Clinical Assistant/ Senior Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is an advanced clinical support role responsible for providing hands‑on patient care while serving as a strategic operational resource to the Medical Director. The position supports high‑quality patient care within the Pediatric and Primary Care departments by performing core clinical duties, coordinating workflow initiatives, and promoting efficient day‑to‑day operations. The Clinical Assistant also facilitates communication between leadership and frontline staff, supports the implementation of clinical priorities, and helps ensure consistent standards of care across practice locations. Through a combination of clinical expertise, operational support, and cross‑functional collaboration, this role contributes to exceptional patient experiences and positive clinical outcomes.


Principal Responsibilities

1. Clinical Patient Care


  • Performs all core Certified Medical Assistant responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and scope‑of‑practice requirements.


  • Prepares examination rooms, rooms patients, obtains vital signs, and accurately documents medical histories, medications, allergies, and other clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR).


  • Assists providers during examinations and procedures and performs EKGs, venipuncture, specimen collection, point‑of‑care testing, immunizations, and medication administration as authorized.


  • Provides patient education and coordinates referrals, diagnostic testing, prior authorizations, and follow‑up services to support continuity of care.


  • Provides hands‑on clinical support within both Pediatric and Primary Care departments to promote efficient patient flow and high‑quality patient care. Trains and onboards other CMAs in the same.



2. Medical Director & Clinical Operations Support


  • Serves as a liaison between the Medical Director and clinical staff to facilitate clear, timely, and professional communication.


  • Assists with the implementation and communication of clinical priorities, workflow updates, quality initiatives, and operational expectations.


  • Tracks assigned initiatives, action items, and follow‑up activities and assists with meeting preparation and related documentation.


  • Assists with onboarding and orientation of clinical support staff and reinforces organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards.

3. Pediatric Clinical Support (Tuesdays, Thursdays and on designated days as needed)


  • Provides dedicated clinical support during pediatric sessions, including collection and documentation of age‑appropriate clinical information, developmental screenings, and immunization records.


  • Supports pediatric preventive care services, immunization programs, and early childhood health initiatives.


  • Coordinates pediatric referrals, follow‑up appointments, and patient education resources to support continuity of care.



4. Vaccine Program Coordination


  • Assist with managing vaccine inventory for both private and VFC stock, ensuring appropriate storage, handling, and documentation under the direction of the Nurse Manager(s).


  • Maintain vaccine refrigerators and freezers, including temperature monitoring, data logger downloads, labeling, and equipment functionality.


  • Maintain vaccine logbooks, temperature logs, inventory records, and NJIIS documentation at the assigned CHC site.


  • Coordinate NJIIS data entry, troubleshooting, and compliance activities.


  • Coordinate and support all CHC sites through VFC site surveys, including on‑site participation as needed.


  • Ensure vaccine rooms remain clean, organized, stocked, and compliant with regulatory standards



Job Competencies & Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Working Conditions/Physical Demand

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the total compensation range for this position is USD $26.00 to USD $34.00. When determining an offer, VNACJ CHC considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's work experience, education/training, relevant skills, internal pay equity, and market and organizational conditions.
