Clinical Assistant Professor/Principal Faculty- Physician Assistant Studies Program, NSU Muskogee
Description of Position
Northeastern State University (NSU) invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track position as Clinical Assistant Professor, Principal Faculty in the Physician Assistant Studies program at NSU. The program emphasizes preparing students for rural practice. The PA program is housed on the NSU Muskogee campus. Faculty will be allowed to engage in clinical work outside of the program one day (8 hours) a week.
Responsibilities
The Principal faculty reports to the Program Director; duties include:
• Assist with implementation and evaluation of didactic and clinical phase curriculum. Develop syllabi, lectures, and evaluation instruments, provide instruction in assigned didactic courses while working closely and collaboratively with other full-time faculty members, medical director, staff, adjunct faculty and invited guest lecturers to ensure curriculum meets current practice standards and scope, and is in compliance with ARC-PA requirements.
• Develop individualized learning objectives and engage students to share in their responsibilities for learning. Serve as a small group facilitator.
• Serve as an academic advisor for PA students.
• Participate in recruitment, admissions, and retention of students.
• Participate in ARC-PA provisional accreditation application, process and accreditation site visits. Assist with program self-evaluation including periodic and ongoing policy and curriculum review. Assist with the evaluation of data demonstrating program success.
• Participate in clinical site visits as needed, assessing clinical education for continuous quality improvement. May include participation in cultivation, development, coordination and maintenance of clinical rotation sites for PA students.
• Participate in activities of state and national organizations concerned with the profession in order to promote a positive image of the PA profession and the NSU PA program within the academic, lay, and professional communities. May serve on department, college, and university committees as requested.
• Participate in professional development activities. Maintain a personal professional development plan, which may include scholarship, research, service, and/or creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
• Opportunities to accept and develop leadership roles in clinical, didactic, or admissions coordination.
• Clinical practice, research, or education advancement release time may be available with approval.
• Perform other functions in support of the program as requested by the Program Director. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activities.
Experience
Experience in PA medical education with demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculum development preferred but will accept application from outstanding candidates with little or no teaching experience.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and writing)
Basic PC knowledge and skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member as well as a commitment to maintaining high professional standards, teaching excellence, and to encouraging student engagement in the learning process.

Education Requirements
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program or other health related field.
Master’s degree in physician assistant studies or field related to education or health sciences required.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
If applicant is a PA, current NCCPA certification is required with a minimum of three years of clinical experience.
Non-PA candidates are expected to have at least three years commensurate public health, education, laboratory or clinical experience.
