Overview

The Department of Social Work and Anthropology at Auburn University at Montgomery invites applications for a 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work to begin January 2027 (preferred) or August 2027. We are expanding our BSW Program to include an online options therefore, candidates must be willing to teach both online and in-person courses. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to social work education, social justice, field education, and service, especially community service. AUM’s BSW program is accredited by CSWE and is one of the fastest-growing majors on our campus. Our program, grounded in a liberal arts perspective, educates social workers to be ethical and competent practitioners who intervene and advocate for social, environmental, and economic justice across all system levels (individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities) utilizing a generalist perspective within a person-in-environment context. The program promotes a commitment to professional ethics and values, critical thinking, professionalism, lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, strengths-based perspective, justice, and service. The program is committed to culturally-responsive practice, social change, and the advancement of individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and society in order to create a more equitable society locally, nationally, and globally.

The Department of Social Work and Anthropology currently includes nine full-time faculty lines and is expected to grow over the next few years. In addition to the majors, the department offers minors in Child Advocacy Studies, Social Work, and Anthropology, as well as interdisciplinarty certificates in Gerontology and Museum Studies and Public Humanities.

Responsibilities

Duties for this appointment include teaching core and elective undergraduate Social Work courses, in particular practice courses, maintaining a productive community-involvement agenda, retention and recruitment efforts, professional advising for online and on-campus students, assisting with maintaining the program’s accreditation, and adding to the service mission of the campus.

Qualifications

Required qualifications: The successful candidate is required to have

  • An MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, DSW, or a PhD in Social Work
  • A minimum of two years post-MSW full-time social work practice
  • LMSW
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with faculty and administration across the university as well as community partners.

Preferred qualifications also include:

  • LiCSW
  • Teaching experience, including online
  • Established record of teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations
