Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics seeks an experienced Animal Care professional to provide study support and veterinary care for research animals, including surgical and anesthetic procedures. You will respond to weekend emergencies under veterinary guidance and maintain meticulous records.

The role requires strong organizational skills, experience with imaging/clinical pathology, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and animal welfare.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in relevant field OR 5 years equivalent industry experience.
• Animal handling and dosing experience.
• Veterinary Technician certification preferred.
• Demonstrated passion for animal care/welfare; technical/scientific skills; willingness to learn R&D process.
• Ocular research techniques/imaging equipment experience.
• Ability to independently recognize challenges and contribute solutions.
• Strong organization, communication, interpersonal skills; safety/regulatory commitment.

Responsibilities

• Provide study support and veterinary care for research animals.
• Triage and treat weekend emergencies per veterinarian direction.
• Assist in or perform aseptic surgical procedures; suture; provide peri/post-op care.
• Conduct diagnostic radiography/imaging and routine clinical pathology.
• Administer injectable and inhalation anesthetics under veterinarian guidance.
• Maintain accurate records (treatments, procedures, inventories, study data/protocols/reports).
• Collaborate with cross-functional research and animal care teams; identify hurdles and propose solutions.
• Manage study timelines and ensure data accuracy; communicate results/data interpretation.
• Comply with Animal Welfare Act, The Guide, 3Rs, FDA and other regulatory requirements.
