MedStar Health is seeking an experienced Clinical Administrator to provide clinical and operational leadership as a Nursing Supervisor at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center in Washington, DC. • Support emergency preparedness and hospital response efforts as a nursing leadership resource.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, hospital administration, and interdisciplinary teams to resolve care concerns.
• Promote patient safety, accountability, and clinical excellence.
• Round throughout the hospital to identify care gaps and opportunities for improvement.

What You'll Do

As Nursing Supervisor, you will provide shift-based leadership and oversight of clinical operations across multiple patient care areas and departments.

You will:

• Provide clinical and administrative leadership during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care across the hospital.


• Assess and respond to complex clinical, operational, and patient safety situations, exercising sound independent judgment.


• Coordinate nursing staffing across units to ensure appropriate coverage based on patient acuity, census, and operational needs.


• Partner with Nurse Leaders and the Float Pool to optimize staffing resources and address unexpected staffing challenges.


• Monitor high-risk patients and complex clinical situations and facilitate appropriate interventions and escalation.


• Support emergency preparedness and hospital response efforts, serving as a key nursing leadership resource during emergencies and unexpected events.


• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, hospital administration, and interdisciplinary teams to resolve operational and patient care concerns.


• Promote a strong culture of patient safety, accountability, and clinical excellence.


• Round throughout the hospital to assess patient care needs, engage with patients and staff, and identify opportunities for improvement.


• Support patient flow by collaborating with Capacity Management, Admissions, Environmental Services, and clinical departments.


• Serve as a resource to nurses and clinical leaders, providing coaching, support, and guidance during challenging situations.


• Support regulatory, accreditation, quality, and patient safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required


• Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field preferred.


• 3-4 years of progressive critical care nursing experience required.


• Nursing leadership or management experience preferred.


• Current District of Columbia RN license or compact state licensure.


• BLS certification required.


• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment in complex situations.
