Job summary

Animas Surgical Hospital is seeking a Clinic Medical Assistant/Care Coordinator in Durango, CO. The role supports clinicians and staff through clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations and high-quality patient care.

  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per clinic policy

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
  • Communicate effectively with providers and administrative teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate patient records in EHR systems
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding scheduling, care plans, and inquiries
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, procedures, and next steps
  • Verify insurance information and assist with pre-authorisations as needed
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines
  • Assist with front desk tasks, including patient check-in and check-out
  • Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries as needed
  • Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies
  • Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient experience
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Summary:

The Clinic Medical Assistant/Care Coordinator supports healthcare providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients.

Reports To:

Director, Outpatient Services | Clinic Office Manager

Hourly Range:

$19.50 – $31.97 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
  • Communicate effectively with providers and administrative teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well‑stocked exam rooms
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate patient records in electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding scheduling, care plans, and general inquiries
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, procedures, and next steps in a clear and compassionate manner
  • Verify insurance information and assist with pre‑authorisations as needed
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines at all times
  • Assist with front desk tasks, including patient check‑in and check‑out
  • Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries as needed
  • Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies

Minimum Requirements
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred. Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per clinic policy

Experience:

1–3 years of experience in a clinical or medical office setting preferred. Experience with EHR systems and basic clinical procedures preferred

Physical Requirements

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50)+ pounds while administering care to patients. Stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily in delivery of patient care. Standing and walking for more than five (5) hours per day; running occasionally in responding to patient care emergencies.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

Ash Immunizations And Vaccinations Requirements

Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunisation
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two‑step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T‑Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
  • Vaccine records or evidence of immunity are required prior to 1st day of scheduled work.
