Job summary

University Physicians Association is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to support the University Colon & Rectal Surgeons (UCRS) team at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. The RN will collaborate with colorectal surgeons and the care team to deliver nursing care in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Responsibilities include performing assessments, educating patients for pre- and post-op care, coordinating tests, and ensuring accurate EMR documentation.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in TN.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• BLS certification (current).
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in a clinic or surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct nursing assessments and patient triage, both in-person and via phone.
• Assist in minor office procedures (e.g., anoscopy, wound care, drain management).
• Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, pre- and post-op instructions, ostomy care, and medication management.
• Coordinate preoperative testing, imaging, and follow-up appointments.
• Monitor and document patient progress and communicate changes to the care team.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EMR.
• Participate in quality improvement and infection control initiatives as required.
