Definition and Class Characteristics

The Nevada County Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion. Our Truckee office is seeking a Temporary Clinic Practitioner, a classification combining the professions of Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant. The Clinic Practitioner organizes, directs, and provides a spectrum of primary health care and other clinical services for clients in a general or specialized health clinic. They work collaboratively with the Public Health Officer in the formulation and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols related to their functions. They oversee and supervise daily healthcare operations and perform related work as required.

Incumbents may be assigned to different specialty areas, consistent with their training. They provide healthcare services and perform procedures requiring advanced knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Medical direction is received from a licensed physician, with administrative oversight from a program manager and director.

The Ideal Candidate Will

• Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution. Post-graduate coursework to meet licensure requirements. At least one year of clinical experience in the desired specialty.
• Bring value to a team dedicated to disease prevention, health promotion, and community safety.
• Participate in ongoing diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives.
• Possess excellent communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks, and remain flexible.
• Be detail-oriented, apply critical thinking, and manage projects effectively.
• Provide excellent customer service with emotional intelligence.
• Be proficient with healthcare software and the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Word.

This position is temporary and part-time, working 20 to 29 hours per week, up to 1000 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees accrue sick leave but are not eligible for other benefits such as vacation, holiday pay, medical, dental, vision, or retirement benefits.
