Job Summary
As an RN, you practice within the Code of Ethics and Standards of Nursing Practice and perform triage via phone and patient messaging. You delegate patient care responsibilities, maintain accountability for care quality, and provide health education focusing on preventive health.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to Children’s Wisconsin policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Provide exceptional care to patients and families.
- Perform RN duties and maintain competencies within scope of practice.
- Provide in‑person clinical care during nurse visits, giving education and coordinating care as needed.
- Notify provider of patients requiring immediate assistance.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate assessment, plan, and monitor care.
- Deliver nursing care via telephone triage and electronic health record using standardized pediatric assessment protocols.
- Document in accordance with organizational nursing standards.
- Adapt to changing assignments and schedules.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age‑appropriate care, including understanding principles of growth and development, assessing data, and interpreting information.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience
- 2+ years in a primary or urgent care setting preferred.
- Experience with pediatric patients preferred.
- Triage experience in a clinical pediatric setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients, families, visitors, providers, and the health care team.
- Good organization, delegation, and communication skills to facilitate efficient patient care.
- Strong analytical decision‑making and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to synthesize multiple sources of information to assist in patient care.
- Assist and support other primary care locations as requested by leaders and the Children’s Medical Group float policy.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider requirement.
- American Heart Association / American Red Cross / National Safety Council required.
- License RN-Registered Nurse – State of Wisconsin (or IN/AZ compact).
Patient Care Responsibility
Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.
