Job Summary The Clinical Office Assistant CMA for the Research Institute provides support to the Research Physicians and Specialty Practice Coordinators in the conduct of clinical investigations by assisting with patient visits and completing clerical/administrative tasks. Will be responsible for providing direct or indirect care, under the supervision of a physician based on their scope of training to patients who present with urgent, emergent or potential health problems, as well as preventive care. Services provided by the Clinical Office Assistant will include, but are not limited to, general patient care, assistance with procedures, documentation of activities and patient/family education. The Clinical Office Assistant will provide care utilizing established principles and ethical standards as well as policies and procedures established by Deaconess. Education and Experience
  • Graduation certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program or graduation from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Experience preferred but not required.
Certificates - Registrations Current certification/license from one of the below:
  • Certified Medical Assistant- American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Registered Medical Assistant- American Medical Technologist
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Health career Association
  • National Certified Medical Assistant- National Center for Competency Testing
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant- National Association for Health Professionals
  • Registered Medical Assistant- American Allied Health
  • Certified Medical Assistant Clinical- American Medical Certification Association
  • CPR provider certification required.

Completes pre-study activities.

  • Reviews and knows requirements of study protocol thoroughly.
  • Attends internal investigator meetings and site initiation visits.
  • Completes pre-study preparation of source documents and/or other necessary study supplies.
  • Implements the procedures of the protocol.
    • Participates in the screening of patient charts and recruitment over the telephone.
    • Pulls and prepares source documents 1-2 days prior to all patient visits.
    • Assists investigator and/or other staff with patient visits in all therapeutic areas.
    • Completes or assists with all study visit procedures, i.e. informed consent process, B/P, pulse, temp, respirations, height and weight, phlebotomy, collection of urine or stool specimens, EKG’s, Review of inclusion/exclusion, etc., as properly trained or licensed.
    • Assist with Study Drug compliance and/or administration as properly trained or licensed.
    • Accurately records pertinent information in source documentation.
    • Assists in communicating with patient for study-related issues.
    • Processes all lab specimens and prepares for shipping.
    • Assists in reporting and completing required documentation (according to sponsor, regulatory, and company policies) for all serious adverse events (SAE’s) immediately to investigator and within 24 hours to sponsor.
    • May assist with transcribing accurate information in the case report forms (CRF’s).
    • Maintains current patient logs for clinical trials.
    • Assists with filing appropriate patient lab results after reviewed and signed by investigator.
    • Monitors and submits request for reorder of all study/office supplies as needed during study.
    • Assists with filing all processed regulatory paperwork in the Regulatory Binder after investigator and study coordinator have reviewed.
    • Resolves queries from sponsors or CRO within required time lines.
    • May assist with clinical monitoring visits.
