Primary Health Care, Inc (PHC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinical and administrative tasks at the East Side Clinic – Internal Medicine in Des Moines. The role includes patient rooming, vital signs, and assisting providers while maintaining patient safety and infection control. You may float to other PHC clinics occasionally.

A 1-year related experience or M.A. program completion is preferred, with opportunities for shift differential on certain Saturdays or evenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of medical assistant or closely related clinical experience or completion of medical assisting program.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to work with a diverse group.
• Strong organization and priority skills with attention to detail.
• Professionalism with composure and empathy; basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and EHR.
• Licenses & Certifications: Current Basic Life Support for HealthCare Providers; Mandatory Reporter certification for Iowa (required or to be obtained during Intro Period).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Patient Care Team to provide healthcare in a clinic setting.
• Prepare for exams/procedures and assist providers; manage patient rooming and vital signs.
• Document care accurately in the EHR and process prior authorizations/referrals.
• Perform point-of-care testing; administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per orders.
• Provide patient education appropriate to age and learning needs.
• Manage supply levels, restock and handle instrument cleaning per infection control policies.
• Accept additional duties as assigned.
